Active Energy Systems announces several important developments

Active Energy Systems, one of the three companies participating in Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s inaugural “Innovation Crossroads” program, recently shared some positive developments for the start-up in its newsletter.

  • A new colleague has joined the effort. That individual is Ivan Beentjes who successfully defended his Master’s Thesis at Cornell University. He is described as “a very experienced and talented engineer, but also one of those rare ‘magicians’ with his hands, making everything he touches work.”
  • The company also won an additional $50,000 in Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s “Beyond Batteries” competition. The funding will allow Active Energy to engage in further development at ORNL while also beginning to build its prototype.
  • Speaking of the prototype, the team reports that components for its 2 kW / 4 kWh Electro-Thermal Energy Storage (ETES) system have arrived and are currently going through a safety review ahead of construction expected to begin later this month. This experimental prototype will test the performance predictions of the start-up’s computational model.
