FreightWaves wins $100,000 during “Rise of the Rest” Chattanooga competition

A fast growing start-up that projects it will generate $13 million in revenue and add another 40 to 50 employees this year won the $100,000 investment at Thursday’s “Rise of the Rest” stop in Chattanooga.

FreightWaves, founded by Craig Fuller, bested seven other competitors during the program that began with a “fireside chat” in driving rain with thunder and lightning and ended with clear skies and sunshine. The Founder and Chief Executive Officer described Freight Waves as “Bloomberg for freight,” preparing market indices, geo heat-maps, and barometers that “map the freight market.”

The Chattanooga stop was the fourth of five cities visited during the Steve Case and J.D. Vance tour across the South.

The other start-ups that pitched to Case and his team were:

  • Aegle Gear, a Chattanooga start-up focused on healthcare apparel;
  • Branch Technology, a 3D printing start-up from Chattanooga that we’ve spotlighted on numerous occasions on teknovation.biz;
  • CPRWrap, another Chattanooga start-up that was the subject of this teknovation.biz article when it was known as CPR LifeWrap;
  • CurieCo, a life science company that engineers biomaterials to replace harmful or banned chemicals found in consumer products and industrial processes;
  • InfinityCo, a start-up providing a product to help enhance student organization, fueling better performance and making it easier for students to stay involved on campus;
  • SkyNano Technologies, a participant in Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s inaugural “Innovation Crossroads” program that was spotlighted most recently in this teknovation.biz article; and
  • WorkHound, another Chattanooga start-up with a continuous feedback platform for frontline workers to help companies proactively address issues. It was the subject of this spotlight on teknovation.biz.

We’ll have more on the Chattanooga event in our feature article Monday.
