LaunchTN expanding internship program to include 10 start-ups
Launch Tennessee (LaunchTN) is expanding its internship program for 2018 to include opportunities with 10 high-growth start-ups located across the state.
The program, started in 2015, now boasts more than 100 alumni who completed internships in one of the six regional entrepreneur centers supported by LaunchTN, according to Brittany Burgess, the organization’s Director of Entrepreneurship.
“This is a paid summer internship that gives students hands-on experience with Tennessee entrepreneurs and an expanded network through engagement with fellow interns, alumni interns, and LaunchTN events,” she explained.
Four of the 10 start-ups are Knoxville based, and all have been the subject of previous articles on teknovation.biz. The four and their specific opportunities are Grow Bioplastics (engineering intern), MomSource Network (software development intern), Smart RIA (software development or marketing intern), and Vendor Registry (business/data analyst intern).
The other six start-ups with internship opportunities include three in Memphis, two in Nashville, and one in Springfield. Information on all 10 openings can be found here.
“These start-ups either have a product in the market or are preparing to launch with plans for accelerated growth over the next six to 12 months,” Burgess said.
In addition to the 10 start-up opportunities, LaunchTN is continuing its support of internships at the six entrepreneur centers (ECs). Those openings are The Biz Foundry in Cookeville (marketing internship), Chattanooga’s CO.LAB (marketing/communications intern), Knoxville Entrepreneur Center (marketing, research, and finance internship), theCO in Jackson (tech, maker or community coordinator internship), and two Memphis-based programs – EPIcenter (marketing and program internship) and Start Co (marketing and program internship).
“The host ECs are part of a statewide network that acts as front doors for entrepreneurs,” Burgess said. “They support companies ranging from street-corner mom and pop shops to tech start-ups scaling into major markets. Each center helps entrepreneurs validate ideas, prepare for fundraising, and connect to business opportunities. Additionally, each EC has specialized programming aligned with industry trends and the demand in their region.”
