ORNL schedules all-day “Technology Innovation Program Showcase” for October 3

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is hosting an all-day “Technology Innovation Program Showcase” on October 3 to do a “deep dive” on five of its most promising technologies.

“We’re looking for people interested in licensing these technologies,” Mike Paulus, Director of Technology Transfer, told us during Tuesday’s “Technov865 Showcase” where he did a brief overview of the inventions.

“All are available for licensing,” he said, noting that the involved researchers have spent the past nine months focused on ensuring the readiness of their inventions.

The Technology Innovation Program (TIP) is an initiative to accelerate the commercial adoption of promising ORNL technologies. Using funds derived from royalties from other licenses, ORNL makes targeted investments in technologies like the five that will be presented on October 3 to increase their commercial readiness and raise their visibility to prospective partners.

“It’s the same program that we’ve operated in the past with one change,” Paulus said. That modification is to have the onsite presentations rather than do individual webinars on each technology.

The program will consist of a series of technical presentations in the morning, a networking opportunity during lunch, and an afternoon dedicated to tours of research labs and other ORNL facilities as well as one-on-one business discussions.

Pre-registration is required. Interested parties can do so here.

The technologies that will be presented are:

  • A low temperature oxidation catalyst;
  • A high temperature aluminum alloy design;
  • An integrated, self-correcting true random number generator;
  • A technology to enhance properties of textile PAN precursors and the derived carbon fibers; and
  • A technology to convert carbon dioxide to ethanol.
