Doug Speight continuing to pursue his effort to disrupt the equipment leasing business

Doug Speight 2Many of our readers in the Knoxville/Oak Ridge region will recall Doug Speight, an individual I helped recruit to Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 2009.

The entrepreneurially-minded, engaging North Carolinian left the lab in 2014, initially on entrepreneurial leave, to start his own company and also serve as Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) for that summer’s “GIGTANK” cohort program at Chattanooga’s CO.LAB.

We wrote about Speight’s plans for Cathedral Innovation Group LLC in this early 2014 teknovation.biz post and continued to follow his efforts including a move back to North Carolina. Our last conversation with him was earlier this year when he reported on his participation in 500 Startup’s “Geeks on a Plane” East Asia tour. Speight is also serving as EIR at American Underground, a Durham-based co-working facility that also has the distinction of being one of only seven Google for Entrepreneurs Tech Hubs.

Thanks to Jim Campbell with the East Tennessee Economic Council, we now have a new update on Speight. It’s an article just published in Forbes that discusses a slightly different model for Cathedral, but clearly a continued push by the former Knoxvillian on his quest to revolutionize the equipment leasing business.
