Workshop on attracting better clients set for next week at KEC

Attracting Better ClientsKnoxville Entrepreneur and Consultant Austin Church is teaming up with the Knoxville Entrepreneur Center (KEC) to offer a two-hour workshop focused on attracting better clients. The event, set for 6 to 8 p.m. June 9 at KEC’s offices on Market Square, costs $99 which includes dinner.

“When I asked my freelancer and consultant friends about their biggest challenge in business, the vast majority of them talked about needing better clients, more sales, and a predictable flow of leads.” Church says. “I was surprised at how similar the answers were.”

As the Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Closeup.fm, Church understands the challenges of growing a business. The start-up went through KEC’s “MediaWorks” accelerator in 2014, so Church says he wanted to partner with the KEC for the workshop. He attendees the goal will be to equip attendees with a number of tactics that they can immediately put to use.

“We’ll focus on the stuff that you can do on a Friday or Monday,” Church explains. The workshop will be held on a Thursday evening and will cater to freelancers, creatives, and consultants, as well as the founders of start-up companies.

The content will be built around a four-letter acronym – FRAG. The “F” stands for “Fire” and describes how a company may need to part ways with some of its clients in order to grow. “R” refers to “Refocus.” Church says smart business development starts with a clear understanding of one’s ideal client. “A” stands for “Attract.” The workshop will cover tactics for consistently attracting the right clients. Finally, “G” represents “Grow.”

“People can show up, learn a lot in a short period of time, then go home and put their kids to bed,” Church says, further describing how many freelancers and entrepreneurs must juggle multiple responsibilities, both personal and professional.

“There are thousands of books and blog posts on business-building strategy, so we’ll narrow the focus to actionable tips that everyone can use right away,” Church explains.
