Lavidge, Compton opening Knoxville branch of Chattanooga-based Variable Technologies

During our lunch discussion on Friday with Alex Lavidge, one of the exciting developments that we heard was an expansion by Chattanooga-based start-up Variable Technologies (VT) with a new Knoxville branch and a key role for Lavidge with the company. VT, which was founded by George Yu, produces handheld wireless sensors that interface with iPhones and iPads.

Lavidge and Greg Compton will be expanding VT’s Business Development and Government Relations Division from their existing office at 2027 Castaic Lane off Hardin Valley Road.

As part of the strategy of elevating visibility for the company and its products, VT will hold a demonstration and press conference at 1 p.m. tomorrow (December 12) at the new Knoxville branch.

A major offering is the NODE, a 3.27-inch wide handheld device that transmits data wirelessly through Bluetooth 4.0 to mobile applications on any Apple iOS device where the information can be stored and analyzed. Lavidge said that Forbes highlighted the NODE two weeks ago as “what every techie wants for Christmas” and as the “Swiss Army Knife of sensors.”

In advance of the event, VT issued the following release – VariableTechnologies-PressRelease-12102012.
